Q Can I work with you if you don’t take my insurance?

Yes! We considered an Out-of-Network (OON) Provider for all insurance providers.  I encourage all clients to check with their insurance provider before scheduling your first appointment to find out the details regarding your specific OON benefits for your plan. Many people do not understand how out-of-network reimbursement works, but it does not have to be complicated or limit your choices in selecting a therapist that is right for your and your current needs.

Q What are out of network benefits?

It’s important to understand that in order to be eligible for OON reimbursement for your counseling services through your insurance company, you will need to have a diagnosed mental health disorder. This applies to all therapy services, whether IN or OUT of network if submitting for any type of reimbursement. If you meet criteria for a mental health diagnosis and you would like to seek OON reimbursement for therapy, I can provide you with a monthly document called a Superbill, which you will submit for reimbursement.

Q What’s a Superbill?

Many health insurance companies offer OON benefits to their members.  This means you pay for your counseling services at the time of service and then submit a document called a Superbill (generated monthly) to your insurance company for reimbursement.  A Superbill provides date of service, proof of payment, and required diagnostic and service codes.

EXAMPLE: Let's say your insurance reimburses 80% for OON services once deductible is met.  You would pay $200 at time of services and your OON reimbursement of $160 would be paid directly to you by your insurance, leaving the actual cost to you at $40/session.

Q What is Paying Out of Pocket?

Many client choose to pay out of pocket for services because it provides us the freedom to explore your concerns without interference from your insurance company. You also do not need a mental health diagnosis or to prove medical necessity for reimbursement.

Issues such as life after divorce, career pivots, stress reduction, grief and loss, and relationship challenges do not meet criteria for mental health disorders or medical necessity. In addition, some people prefer to keep their mental health private and not on their medical record. Working privately affords you a higher degree of confidentiality.

Bottom line: paying privately empowers you to choose the therapist that’s the right fit for you and your needs, not just a therapist off some super long insurance list. This is an important variable to consider when seeking support.

Our out-of-pocket cost is $200/session. Please talk with your individual therapist for information about sliding scale options and how to make therapy more affordable for you.

Payment Options

Payment is accepted in the form of credit card (including HSA cards) through your client portal. Autopay is available. We also accept cash/checks/cashiers checks. You are responsible for full payment at the time of services regardless of out-of-network or insurance benefits.
